Eleonor Fernández cree que no hay tiempo para la justicia

Eleonor Fernández conoce de cerca a las víctimas del régimen de los jemeres rojos. 🎋 Durante ocho años ha trabajado en el departamento que se encarga de la representación de 3.867 de ellas.

Ha escuchado sus testimonios. Las ha visto llorar. Enfurecerse. Perdonar. Y preguntarse una y otra vez por qué: por qué camboyanos mataron a otros camboyanos. 😯 «Lo que más me ha sorprendido de ellas es su orgullo y la cantidad de detalles que recuerdan». ⤵

Eleonor nació en Costa Rica pero se crió en París. 🗼

«De pequeña me encantaba la historia del Imperio de Angkor (Camboya s. IX – XV) sus templos, sus dioses…🕉 Iba todos los sábados a un museo para ver los objetos y esculturas que allí había. Por eso, cansada de trabajar en los tribunales de la Corte Penal Internacional, me gustó la idea de venir aquí, a escuchar a las víctimas y tratar de ayudarlas.» ↘

Ella se siente satisfecha con lo que han conseguido.

«No es una justicia completa porque ha pasado mucho tiempo y no se puede analizar todo lo que pasó. Hay crímenes como el bombardeo americano que nunca serán juzgados. 🚩 Pero ha valido la pena. Personas que jamás habían contado su historia se han atrevido a hablar. Aparecemos todos los días en el periódico. El debate se ha abierto y la gente está perdiendo el miedo.» ⤵

Eleonor razona que en España es necesario que algo parecido pase con los crímenes del franquismo. ⚠

«La diferencia es que el gobierno camboyano pidió estos tribunales, nadie se los impuso. Sabían que eran necesarios para su apertura internacional, después de los turbulentos años de la guerra civil. Pero en España se necesitaría un fuerte cambio político para conseguirlo. Por respeto a las víctimas,  para tener una historia completa y porque nunca hay tiempo para la justicia, España debería tener un tribunal que investigue que ocurrió». ↪

El caso que le ha ocupado estos años ha terminado y esta visto para sentencia.  Eleonor está embarazada de su tercer hijo y en dos semanas vuelve a Europa. «Han sido unos años de duro trabajo y mi misión aquí ha terminado».📌

She has worked during 8 years in the department in charge of the  representation of 3,867 of them. She has listened to their testimonies. She has seen how they have cried, got angry and forgiven. Also, how they have asked themselves again and again, why Cambodian killed other Cambodians. 😯 «What really has impressed me is their pride and the details that they remember». ⤵

Eleonor was born in Costa Rica, but she was raised up in Paris.

«When I was little I loved the Angkor Empire history (Cambodia 11th-15th century) their temples, their Gods…🕉. She used to go every Saturday to a museum to observe the objects and sculptures. That’s why, tired of working at the International Criminal Court, I found interesting the idea of coming here to listen and help the victims». ↘

She feels satisfied with what she has achieved.

«It’s not a full justice because it happened long time ago, all what happened can’t be analized and there have been crimes as the American bombardment  that never will be judged. 🚩 But it has been worth it. People that had never before shared their stories have dared to talk. We appear everyday on the newspaper. The debate has been opened and people are loosing the fear».⤵

Eleonor says that something similar is necessary to happen in Spain with the crimes of Francoism.⚠

«The difference is that the Cambodian government asked for these courts, they weren’t imposed. But in Spain a huge politic changed it is needed to achieve it. Out of respect of the victims , to have a full history and because there’s never time for justice, Spain should have a court to investigate what happened». ↩

The case that had her occupied these last years has finished and it’s ready for judgment. She is pregnant of her third son and in two weeks she is going back to Europe. «They have been a few years of hard work and my mission here has finished».📌
